Small amounts of salt are necessary for health but most westerners eat too much of it and that can lead to strokes, heart disease, kidney trouble and more. [1]

If you're a vegetarian you aren't eating salty bacon but many vegetarian foods like canned olives and meat substitute contain added salt so you should be careful not to eat too much. Pescatarians may be eating salted fish, kippers and the like which should be limited. Many small snacks that vegetarians can eat like potato crisps usually contain too much salt and vegetarians need to be as careful as meat eaters. [2]
